Former Liverpool Football Academy director in Cyprus, Andreas Vrakas, is among the foreign coaches being considered for the vacant Zesco United head coach position as the club continues its recruitment process ahead of the new season.
BolaNews understands that the Cypriot tactician has already been interviewed by the nine-time Zambian champions following the club’s decision to open applications for the role.
Zesco United recently confirmed they would not retain club legend Winston Kalengo, who took charge on an interim basis after Emmanuel Siwale’s departure. The club subsequently advertised the position, seeking a coach to lead the team into the 2026 Transitional League season.
The vacancy requires applicants to possess a minimum CAF A Licence or an equivalent qualification, significantly narrowing the list of eligible candidates.
Vrakas, who holds a UEFA A coaching licence, brings more than 13 years of coaching experience, having worked primarily in Cyprus, with a brief spell in Greece.
One of the highlights of his coaching career came when he worked alongside former Croatia international and ex-Bayern Munich defender Daniel Pranjić.
Away from the touchline, Vrakas has also built experience in football development and performance analysis. He previously served as director of the Liverpool Football Academy in Cyprus and has training in football analytics.
Zesco United are continuing to evaluate applications and interview both local and foreign candidates as they seek to appoint a permanent head coach before the Transitional League season gets underway in September.
