Just when the match appeared destined for extra time, the Warriors found a dramatic breakthrough in the 88th minute. Zindonga Junior whipped a dangerous cross into the penalty area, and the ball took a cruel deflection off Kafuti Saisande, wrong-footing the goalkeeper before finding the back of the net.
The unfortunate own goal proved to be the difference, handing Zimbabwe the tournament title and breaking Zambian hearts.
Despite the defeat, the Chipolopolo produced a spirited display and created several promising moments throughout the contest. Goalkeeper Luka Mainza was one of Zambia’s standout performers, making a series of impressive saves to deny Zimbabwe on multiple occasions and keep his side firmly in the match.
Zambia reached the final after overcoming Malawi in a dramatic semifinal, prevailing 9-8 on penalties following a tightly fought encounter.
Zimbabwe, meanwhile, secured their place in the final with an impressive 3-0 victory over Botswana, carrying that momentum into the championship match.
Although Chipolopolo fell just short of lifting the trophy, the tournament provided valuable experience and several encouraging performances as the team continues its preparations for future international assignments.
