Aguila Stars head coach Brian Kunsunama has made it clear that the club’s primary objective for the upcoming ZPL National League transitional season is to secure promotion to the MTN Super League.
After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, Aguila Stars have stepped up their preparations, with Kunsunama urging his players and technical staff to approach the new campaign with determination and accountability.
The coach stressed that there would be no room for excuses, insisting that success will be built through hard work from the very first day of pre-season.
“The first message I’ve given to the boys, the technical team and everybody around us is that we don’t want excuses this time. From day one, we push, we work, and we leave nothing unturned,” Kunsunama said.
While promotion remains the immediate target, Kunsunama revealed that the club’s leadership has an even bigger long-term vision for Aguila Stars.
According to the coach, the board wants to transform the club into one of the leading teams on the African continent, but he believes that ambition can only be achieved by focusing on consistent improvement every day.
“We’ve got a very ambitious board and president who have a bigger vision of making this team one of the best in Africa. That’s where we want to go.”
He added that attention to detail and maintaining high standards throughout the season will be crucial if the club is to achieve its ambitions.
“Every step matters. The small things we do every day will make the difference. The players understand that everything we do will determine whether we achieve promotion to the Premier League.”
Aguila Stars will be hoping to turn last season’s disappointment into motivation as they aim to finally secure a place in Zambia’s top flight during the transitional campaign.
