Former Nkana defender Alick Sichinga believes the club has made smart moves in the transfer market and has urged supporters to remain patient as the rebuilding process gathers pace.
The Kitwe giants have strengthened their squad with eight new signings while also promoting three players from the Young Nkana academy ahead of the 2026 MTN Super League transitional season.
After recently serving a transfer ban, Nkana have adopted a different recruitment strategy by targeting younger players, signalling a renewed focus on building for the future rather than pursuing short-term success.
Sichinga believes the club’s approach reflects valuable lessons learned from previous seasons.
“I think the moves are smart. You can tell from the profile of players they have signed that the club is thinking long term,” he said.
The former defender acknowledged the high expectations that come with representing one of Zambia’s biggest clubs but appealed to supporters to give the new-look squad time to develop.
“I know the pressure that is at Nkana. The fans want instant success, but they will have to be patient,” Sichinga added.
Nkana are looking to recover from a difficult campaign that saw them narrowly avoid relegation to the National Division One.
The 13-time league champions will compete in Stream A during the transitional season, where their immediate objective will be to finish at the top of the group and secure qualification for the championship playoff stage.
With a youthful squad and a renewed long-term vision, Nkana will be hoping their rebuilding project lays the foundation for a return to competing for major honours.
